ALAN MURAOKA (Director) is proud to return to the Triad, where he directed a successful run of A Tribute to Julie and Carol at Carnegie Hall, an homage to the famed 1962 concert that brought Julie Andrews and Carol Burnett together for the first time. Mr. Muraoka received acclaim for his 1998 New York Off-Broadway revival of Falsettoland, which was produced by NAATCO and enjoyed a sold out run at the Vineyard Theater. Other New York directing credits include readings of Euijoon Kim’s My Tired Broke Ass Pontificating Slapstick Funk and Derek Nguyen’s Monster, both for the Public’s New Works Now Series. For the past 2 years, Mr. Muraoka has been Director-in-Residence for Second Generation Productions, directing productions and overseeing staged readings of new works, including Bobby Del Rio’s Christian Values, Michael Golamco’s Achievers, Derek Nguyen’s Last Year’s Kisses, and Euijoon Kim’s Karaoke Stories. Last year, he directed a new Asian American rock musical called Making Tracks, which enjoyed a successful 3 city tour in Taiwan. He also directed the same production at the Village Theater in Seattle.
As an actor, Mr. Muraoka has appeared on Broadway in Mail, Shogun the Musical, My Favorite Year, The King and I, and Miss Saigon, where he played the leading role of the Engineer. For the past four years, Mr. Muraoka has been on the Emmy-Award winning series Sesame Street, where he plays Alan, the new proprietor of Hooper's Store. He is a Theater Arts graduate of UCLA.
